We want to be plain about this, because it is the part that causes confusion. We did not replace our old address. northeastgabank.com stays active. Several of our systems and outside service providers use it, so you will keep seeing it in links, in emails, and on screens when you bank with us online. Nothing is wrong when you do.
If you already have us bookmarked, keep the bookmark. If you are starting from scratch, ngb.bank is nine characters instead of nineteen, which matters more than you would think when you are typing on a phone or reading an address to somebody over the phone.
Why we added it
Anybody with a credit card can register a .com. Nobody can register a .bank without proving they are a chartered, regulated financial institution in good standing. The registry verifies it before approving the name and checks again every year, and every .bank site has to run strong encryption. It is a name no one can take from us and no one can imitate.
We will not tell you that solves fraud, because it doesn’t, and because we would be handing you a rule that breaks the first time a legitimate link takes you to our .com address. The rule below is the one that always holds.
